Some may know and some may not know but today marks the 102nd anniversary of Delta Sigma Theta. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University and was incorporated in 1930. The young ladies wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need. One of the the first public acts performed by the Delta founders was their involvement in the Women’s Suffrage march in Washington D.C., March 1913. However, since that time women of Delta Sigma Theta have been major contributor to society. Delta has amassed a membership of over hundred thousands of esteemed and accomplished women. Many of these women are trailblazers in their industry and well-known famous faces in television, film and politics.
Before any of you ask or assume, no I am not a Delta. However, I have many family members and friends who are Deltas but most of all, I am a supporter of any positive sisterhood. I know that recently there has been a lot of talk and a bit of negativty surrounding sorority sisters. This is due to VH1 show Sorority Sisters and the actions and attitudes of cast members. However, Delta Sigma Theta has a strong foundation built on sisterhood, scholarship and service.
In celebration of these amazing women, I decided to share with you five celebrity members of Delta Sigma Theta.
