Hey babes! Happy PHAT Girl Friday!
There are a couple of statements that I stand by wholeheartedly and repeat often. One of those statements is, “womanhood does not greet every girl in the same manner.” I know this to be true because my transition into womanhood is one that not every woman can relate to, at the same time I have met many women who transitioned in a manner that I am unable to connect with. However, the most important aspect of our transition is that it took place and it caused us to be stronger women.
Today, I want to introduce you to a personal friend of mine; a woman who is greater because of her transition. No, she doesn’t have some sad song to sing about her childhood; all she has is her truth and the experiences which made her the woman that she is today. You know, sometimes you meet women with so much drive and ambition but you never know what fuels them; all you know is that it is present. Women who work hard, dream big and take risk all in pursuit of the bigger picture;Jessica Carter, is one of those women
Jessica is a 32 year old CNA (Certified Nurses Assistant) by day and a bartender by night but her dreams are so much bigger. Jessica is a aspiring plus size model that has been working on her craft for years. She has walked in several fashion shows, including Michael Keith’s (member of 112) Lupus Awareness show. While pursuing her dream of being a plus size model, Jessica has has the pleasure of working with many indie designers. She has also groomed other aspiring models as she worked to sharpen her own skills.
While others look at all Jessica does and have done and applaud her, she feels that she is capable of more. Jessica’s dream is to have great influence in the plus size community; she wants to shed more light body positivity and size diversity, especially for larger plus size women (Extended Plus). Why? Because as a woman on the larger end of the plus size spectrum she knows the importance of this group of women being represented. Which is why she continues to build her platform by being bold and honest about who she is and she encourages other women to do the same.

While I know a lot about Jessica and I could probably share more with you, I think it would be better from the woman herself. So, today I share with you what Jessica says is her PHAT truth:
I’m truly passionate about being happy and helping others find their happiness. Because it starts with you!
Living makes me happy! Wake up with a purpose.. I yawn, stretch and prepare to make my life and at least one person’s life a little bit better and happier!
I am most appreciative for my team; which includes my family, partner, friends, and supports. They’re my reason to get going every morning. A few mouths ago I woke up and said I didn’t want to model any more because it’s too much work and I wasn’t getting anywhere with it! I just felt like giving up and just letting everything I’ve preached about and strive for fall at my the waist side. My partner told me in a not so nice voice ” now Jessica that’s selfish as hell” I said what? How? She said, “what about all your supports and women that come to you and tell you how you motivated them to love themselves and be confidant?” I said yeah and… She replied, “so you just gone quite on them?” I thought about… You right boo! Then, I had a customer to say the other day that watching my journey on Facebook and Instagram gives her strength to be confidant and strong. She told he she doesn’t hate herself anymore since she started following me. It brought me to tears, just to know I have that kind of affect on people… I can’t quite! I must go on! For them and my family!!
I stay true myself because that’s all I know, my mom and sister are the realist people I know. They never just tell me what I want hear they tell me the truth, even if it’s not what I want to hear. So saying and doing what “I” want do and want say is the only way I know how to be!
What do you ladies think of Jessica? If you ask me she is pretty darn amazing but I may be a little partial since we have been friends so many years. However, she is one to watch because with her drive and ambition she is headed to the top.
