Hey PHAT Girls!
Every woman has a story. Most of our stories are shared verbally at some point in our lives. However, every time a woman gets dressed, she tells a story without uttering a word. That story is told through the fashion she gravitates toward and the way she exhibits that fashion (style).
Whether we like it or not presentation is important. No, it is not everything and many times individuals interpret what they see, in the wrong manner but it is where things begin. Everyone may not have the pleasure of having a conversation with you; you may not always be able to verbally share your story. However, based on your fashion choices and color selections, individuals begin to form their personal opinions about who you are or are not.
As I stated in the beginning, every woman has a story and every woman begins that story the moment she gets dressed. However, what I need to add is that no woman’s story as told via her style and fashion is more important than that of a plus size woman.
The visual story told by plus size women is very important. Why? Because society has painted such a distorted picture of the plus size woman. With that in mind, it is up to plus size women to share our true story from cover to cover.
God only knows the story my style told before I evolved into the happy, confident woman I am today. I lived in a box because I thought I had to; this derived from me absorbing society’s negativity about who I was as a plus size woman. During those times, I dressed in shapeless, dark clothing all the time because that was what I was supposed to do… right? The dark clothes would make me look smaller and the shapeless clothing would hide me; and the world would not know how fat I was.
Well… I EVOLVED! I dismissed all that I had absorbed from society and now I dress in a manner that tells my story properly.
Shiny things and bright colors because my light is brilliant!
Mixed prints, patterns and textures because I am fun and playful.
Different silhouettes because I love every inch of my body and I tend to be a little flirty (maybe a lot).
Monochrome in colors other than black because I am a bold risk taker!
