My Style Journal: Popping Out In Neon Green

If you are attempting to live someone else’s truth or living according to anyone’s standards other then your own, you are committing identity theft. It is so unfortunate to witness but the truth is people do it all the time. I can’t say without conviction what causes people to shy away from being their authentic self but I think it is largely due to the absence of confidence and the presence of fear. I completely understand the hardships connected to attempting to navigate in spaces that don’t embrace or celebrate women like myself. However, I am here to encourage you to dismiss society’s rules, standards, and negativity. Don’t be afraid to live outside of the box and pop out sis because the world needs to see and hear you.

Society has so many rules that women are expected to live by. Many of these rules are not only ignorant but also dated. It is as if women were not expected to change with the times because many of society’s standards for women have no connection to the current state of the world or the evolution of women. There is still those who believe a woman’s sole purposes are to marry, have children and keep the house. Oh and let’s not forget the foolishness about being seen and not heard or being ladylike. Now add community-specific rules and standards in the mix and it is crystal clear why women struggle with confidence and fears of judgment and not being accepted.

More than any other community of women, plus size women were never supposed to live outside of the box. Even in the midst of what is clearly a Curvy revolution, there are those who see plus size women as individuals who lack self-control, confidence, and beauty. Many don’t understand how or why the vibes and energy of plus size women are so high or why we are now so bold and unapologetic. How dare us believe that we are beautiful, love our bodies or pop style with statement pieces that are vivid, strongly pronounced or sexy. They say, fat girls aren’t supposed to be lit but I say you’ve been it sis, and now is the time to POP OUT!

Green is a combination of two of my favorite colors, yellow (my feel-good color) and blue. Green encompasses the mental clarity and optimism of yellow with the emotional calm and insight of blue, and it inspires hope and a generosity of spirit. With all of the above in mind, plus the fact that I wanted to stand out, this monochromatic green look was a definite vibe.
