HAPPY PHAT GIRL FRIDAY!!!! I am sure that you are as excited about the weekend as I am. As promised I have a guest blogger today, she will be sharing with us something that makes her happy. Her name is Lei-Loni Greenhow and she is the head blogger of Clothe Your Curves. I am very honored to have her share with us one of the characteristics of P.H.A.T; happiness.
To stay in touch with Lei-Loni, follow her on the following social media outlets:
As a kid I never really thought about what made me happy. I just knew what I loved and that was anything that had to do with art! Drawing, painting, sculpting, paper mache’: I did it all. My love of the arts evolved into graphic design and later furniture. Not just furniture design either, I can build it to! Yes, power tools and I are besties! In college I majored in Industrial Designs, where I made prototype models including gaming systems, buildings, and furniture. It was here that I discovered my passion for furniture, because of the numerous styles, finishing’s, and their ability to transform a room.
After working in traditional office settings throughout and after college, I realized I wasn’t happy! For the first time I stopped and asked myself, “what makes me happy”? At the time I did infrequent freelance jobs making valances or end tables, which I loved. It’s so gratifying to take something from the idea stage with basic sketches, build it, and then see the final piece in someone’s home. After some planning and a leap of faith, I took a year off to pursue my passion.
My primary business came from Interior Designers wanting custom pieces. However, with the crash of the housing market, my freelance jobs started to deplete, so I returned to the office. I didn’t see this as a failure though, because I finally found a balance between financial stability and happiness through my creative outlet. Occasionally, I still make headboards between work and blog posts!
