Hey PHAT Girls!
Despite, size, age or personal style, I think all women encounter moments in which we question whether we should display our style in a manner that is either bold or basic. This question is often based on the occasion, but other factors are also examined like other event attendees, the weather and insecurities. Yep, insecurities find a way to linger (like the funk of dirty socks) in the hearts and minds of most women at some point in our lives, even if it is as small as what to or not to wear.
Be honest with yourselves ladies, anytime you second guess yourself or consider others first, insecurities are present. Nope, it may not be crippling or dictate every move, but it is there. Listen, I get it, and I have been there many times, this is why I can speak so matter of factly about how insecurities work and present themselves in all of our lives.
I have been haunted by the question of whether to be bold or basic hundreds of times. Being that I have always been such a bold and colorful person in spirit, I wanted that to translate through my style, but I was fat. I knew that being fat meant you couldn’t be bold and colorful, according to society, so I conformed. This was before me knowing better and evolving into who I am today. God forbid I didn’t dumb myself down and become the subject of stares, shade and the ultimate question, “who does she think she is?”
Today as a woman who is bold and badass, I have absolutely no fucks to give. I only live according to my standards, not society’s. I understand that my weight and the opinions of others have no control over my style unless I allow it to. This is a truth that I want all plus size women to absorb, because no matter your size, you have the right to be bold AF in every moment, not just fashion.
